burma in the news...

Hey all,

Cruising through cyberspace, I found this article. Although surely not the first, it is the first time in a long time that I have seen anything about the Karen or the situation inside of Burma mentioned in a large news publication. A few of the details are a bit off, such as saying the military took power in 1988, or that the Burma Army has in the past attacked mostly Karen strongholds (since when is a village full of women and children a "stronghold"?), and it doesn't mention anything about the systematic rape, torture and forced labor, but hey, at least the situation is getting some attention. It will take a lot more to raise the public awareness of whats going on, but this is definitely a start! (for more on the real situation, see the links at right) Kudos to the Washington Post for this article, and may they next time report the whole story of the attrocities committed everyday inside of Burma. For more (and better) on the situation here on the border, check out this article too. Thanks to "The Age".
